I worked as a project manager for complex defense systems for more than 20 years. I made a very successful career of coming into projects that someone else was failing at and right sizing the ship so to speak, getting the team refocused and the product out the door. Although the work itself was interesting and, at times, extremely rewarding, the toll the stress took on me and my family was enormous and this gradually outweighed both the money and the personal satisfaction. It was clear that I needed to make some changes in my life.
"Have a Plan of Your Own"
About that time, my older brother, who retired from W-2 life at age 52 as a result of his success as an investor, challenged me to “have a plan of my own.” A successful marketing executive, he worked hard at investing too and grew his wealth steadily over years of consistent value investing. I took the advice to heart and exposed myself to training by expert people who won consistently in the market.
I also realized that no one was going to look out for me and my family and our future better than I would. Our stockbroker had too many other clients to spend much time on our account; except for small amount of time it took to prepare for the once a year review. My company clearly would not, and regardless of your politics, no government has ever made anyone prosperous. If I was going to be able to retire on my investments, it would have to be up to me. I paid thousands of dollars for years of training, software, mentoring, and coaching. After paper trading and then trading part-time, I eventually started trading stocks and options full time and haven’t looked back.
I have enjoyed sharing what I have learned almost as much as I have enjoyed trading stocks and setting my own hours. Some days, I’m done by noon. And because of how I trade, even when I’m not in front of the screen, my money is working for me. Now, when most people are fighting traffic on their way to their job in downtown Indianapolis, I’m often walking my dog in the park watching him chase squirrels. Now which sounds less stressful to you?
"Don't work for management incompetence, Trade it"
